About

I am a partner is a used bookshop in Bethlehem, PA.  Occasionally my partner and I come across a book of which we cannot find another copy available for sale online.  This is good and bad…bad in the sense that it then becomes very difficult for us (being fairly new to the book business) to decide on a value for the book.  For example, we recently aquired a copy of The Arabian Nights published in 1912 with twenty coloured plates.  We cannot find another copy of this book for sale online.  We’ve found many similar, but none of this exact edition.  We decided to try to list the book on ebay…which we did for a $200 minimum bid.  Then I had the idea for this blog and we removed the listing after a few days.  (We had two ‘watchers’ but no bids when we removed the auction)

My goal for this website is for it to become an online resource for booksellers and bookbuyers.

I’m hoping that other booksellers will submit to me questions about, ’rare’ books that they have in their posession and are wondering about.  I’m hoping you in the book community will send in information and photographs about books that you own and would like to know more about.  Email us at: rarebookblog[at]gmail.com.

I’m also hoping that book experts will then weigh in on the books we feature.  Tell us what you know!  If you see a book you are knowledgable of…please write in with information about the history of the book, the value, it’s author, illustrator.  It’s all interesting!  I would love it if I had some experts on call waiting to answer our questions.  My plan is to update this blog twice a week.  On each update I’ll feature one or two books.

Let’s talk about the BENEFITS of participating in this site:

  • The site will grow into an extremely useful research tool as content is added each week.
  • This site is another avenue for myself and fellow booksellers to promote, on the web, some of our more unusual inventory.  If you submit a book that you would like to be featured on this site we will gladly list the name and contact information of your business or a link to your website!
  • This site will be a great learning tool as far as what to look for when we are purchasing our inventory!
  • It’s a great forum for the experts in the book industry to share their expertise and to promote themselves!  We will gladly post the website information or business details of any book expert that can contribute!

Thank you!
